Shower Pipe WWHR

SHOWER PIPE WATER WASTE HEAT RECOVERY

WHAT IS A SHOWER PIPE WWHR

A shower pipe heat exchanger is a 1700 to 2100 mm long vertical heat exchanger. This exchanger replaces part of the drain pipe through which used hot shower water flows.

  • For ground-level homes
  • Available in lengths 1700 and 2100mm
  • Also a solution for high flows at rain showers or sports complexes

HOW DOES A SHOWER PIPE HRV WORK?

Imagine taking a shower for 10 minutes with a shower head of 9 liters per minute. You then use 90 litres of warm water. For this purpose, the shower mixer mixes cold (10 degrees) and hot water (60 degrees) until it comes out of the shower head at 38 degrees.

After all that water comes into contact with the body for a few seconds, it flows into the sewer. The water is still approximately 35 degrees when it enters the shower drain. A waste of all that residual heat, your wallet and the environment!

The following happens by installing a heat recovery shower pipe. The cold supply water for the shower mixer tap and/or central heating boiler first flows through the heat recovery shower pipe. Once the shower is turned on, it takes 15 to 20 seconds for the vertical heat exchanger shower to heat up. The shower pipe then transfers the heat to the cold supply water. The temperature of the cold water rises from 10 degrees to approximately 24 degrees.

Due to this principle, the shower mixer tap needs to mix much less hot water to achieve the desired temperature of 38 degrees.

ADVANTAGES OF SHOWER PIPE HEAT RECOVERY

  • Save approximately 100-200m³ of gas per year
  • Reduces CO² emissions
  • Go with a smaller boiler or hot tap water available for longer
  • Interesting BENG contribution
  • Improves the energy label
  • Maintenance-free
  • Self-cleaning
  • Fast payback period
  • No resource or electricity required

PROVEN TECHNOLOGY

Did you know that the technique of heat recovery from shower water has been around for 20 years? More than 100,000 shower heat recovery units have been installed in the Netherlands. The heat exchanger has therefore been significantly further developed and has more than proven itself.

ENERGY SAVING SHOWER PIPE-WTW

We are all showering more often and for longer. On average we use approximately 100m³ of gas per person per year. The energy savings of our shower pipe heat recovery systems are between 30 and 50% on hot tap water.

Do you have a family of four? The savings then quickly increase to 120 to 200m³ of gas per year. Of course, the savings differ per type of shower pipe heat recovery, showering behaviour and family composition.

IDEAL FOR A HEAT PUMP

Houses are increasingly better insulated and heating requirements are decreasing. However, we are showering more and more often and for longer. As a result, the share for heating tap water actually increases.

As a rule, a well-insulated home needs more gas for tap water than for heating the home. Fortunately, you can reduce this energy component by applying heat recovery technology from shower water .

  • You can shower longer with the same storage vessel
  • You can select a smaller boiler/storage tank
  • It improves system efficiency (gas boiler, heat pump runs less)

INSTALLATION TIPS & POINTS OF INTEREST

  • Place the changer completely vertically
  • The cold water supply must be protected with an EA valve
  • Use a thermostatic shower mixer with systems A and B
  • Shower pipe heat recovery must not hang in a heated room (>25°C)
  • Do not apply insulation to the outside of the shower pipe
  • Do not apply insulation to the water pipes to and from the shower heat recovery unit so that the resting water cools quickly to the ambient temperature.

ALTERNATIVE SHOWER PIPE-WTW

Is a shower pipe heat recovery not possible? Then a shower drain HRV may be an option. This is mainly used in stacked construction or if the bathroom is on the ground floor.

  • Ground-based: shower pipe-recovery Shower HR Tube 1-21 or 1-17
  • Rain shower: shower pipe-WTW Shower HR Tube 1-21 HF
  • Stacked construction: shower drain heat recovery
  • Downstairs bathroom: shower drain-heating unit
